The second book in this series could actually be standalone as it chronologically occurs at the same time as the first book, and this one focused on new characters (well technically, partically knew as the second year Giichi Ichikawa is the Director for the second years in the first book, and Mao among others makes an appearance though they aren't named). As a standalone story it works well to offer a different side to the Roommates Become Lovers Prompt (Rivals Become Lovers) as well, as well as the Upperclassman and Underclassman prompt, and there is one other one but the surprise would be ruined to say it...

That said, like the first book, the dorm room serves as the place where characters can become vulnerable and reveal a side to themselves that no one else knows, for these film club students it offers a haven where they can cast aside their views and arguments on film and get to know each other. Most interestingly, since Giichi Ichikawa has taken a huge interest in BL (and wrote one for his movie), that brings the characters together and actually leads to some really insightful and hilarious moments (both from how Giichi Ichikawa would characterize the two of them in the traditional BL relationship positioning jargon and well how they mention it in a more advanced moment in their relationship). Additionally, the BL allows them to grow closer.

This story sets itself apart from the first by using the looming graduation as a source or drama and having the characters proclaim their feelings far sooner. Because of that the writing gets to take the chance to have the "playboy" type of character have moments where he is attempting to romance the other, and then, we also get the more sentimental moments where you get the usual prompt "I've never heard him say "I love you"" going on...its one of my favorite prompts.

Overall I loved this volume and almost more than the first (personally, like Mao character design the most out of the four so far, and then Jin for second). I liked the side characters having more of a role here, especially Rei. I am curious if he will have some sort of romance in this series. The second years love him, literally everyone crowds around him, and I think the artist really took a liking to his design.

Just like in the first one, though, how does no one in the dorm know about them, they even had a scene during the lemon moment where Giichi Ichikawa bangs his head on the wall, and also the make out sessions on campus...though more interesting, Rei, he seems super insightful, surely he's noticed how the two look at each other.
