This is not a good APP and I would not make a recommendation for schools to use. Here is what I sent to support, but only to receive the political response. They are watching their bottom line, given the time and effort they may be putting into this app. In one response from support, they said the following: "I would also recommend turning the magnification up as a work around if the boxes are too small for them to see."

While working with my daughter on the IXL application I uncovered flaws in the program. I am notifying the school to rethink this application. IXL should really have its developers fix the issues as soon as possible. When children are doing Math, this will critically throw students off in their thinking, mindset, and score to be assessed. Especially kindergarteners if they did not have an idea of what they did wrong technically.

1. The problem, my daughter got a problem right with an answer of 31. However, there was a technical issue made by accidentally hitting the space bar without her knowing what happen as kindergartener. So, the program marks it wrong because she accidentally hit the space bar and it put a space between the number because the space bar is located below the numbers when entering them. Either way the change to not allow a spacebar applicable or change the dynamic of entering characters.

2. The program is also defaulted to 1st grade when logging into the application. While reviewing the programs, I noticed in the upper left corner there was a dropdown menu to select a child's grade, which had me realize this was set to 1st grade and I had to change it to Kindergarten. There should be an option t9 set for default by the teachers or parents that set the profile up.

3. In the math problem areas, the answer box is too small and not highly visible when you consider young kids utilize this program and it blends into the background. There should be some type of colorful outline around it.

4. When kids are doing problems that involve matching, more or fewer, or the other problems... there should be a line between the answer and problem so the kids can easily distinguish. E everything nearly runs together, and this can be a major issue with blending.

Conclusion: I think you have a great app, but my daughter has been working both the kindergarten and 1st level of this application until I identified this issue. As the technical, engineering, and cyber guru that I am. This is easy to fix for the application developer in my opinion. This is critical to a child's development, mental recognition, critical thinking, and stability in learning, and the overall of what aggregate results will be used to assess a child's learning. I would be glad to speak with anyone about these initially identified issues. Who knows how many students have made this simple mistake that would even throw off their diagnostic assessment parents are not aware. Attention should be brought to these things in the application, and who knows how many more issues like this have not been addressed.
