Margaret Rhea Seddon, M.D. (born in 1947) was selected as a NASA candidate in January 1978 and became an astronaut in August 1979. She made three trips into space aboard space shuttles: as a Mission Specialist on STS-51D Discovery (April 12-19, 1985) and STS-40 Columbia (June 5-14, 1991) and as Payload Commander on STS-58 Columbia (October 18-November 1, 1993). She also assisted in the preparation of the cardio-vascular experiments executed on Columbia (April 1998). After her retirement from NASA in November 1997, Dr. Seddon became Assistant Chief Medical Officer at Vanderbilt Medical Group in Nashville, Tennessee.
