Robert "Bud" McFarlane (b. 1937), a highly decorated US Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel who combined two tours in Vietnam with elite graduate study in international relations, served as Military Assistant to National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger (1973-1975), and then as a military aide to President Ford. After service on the staff of the Senate Armed Services Committee, he became Deputy National Security Advisor (1982) and then National Security Advisor (1983-1985) to President Reagan. He was a strong advocate of the Strategic Defense Initiative for missile defense, better known as "Star Wars". In 1986, McFarlane, now out of public office, became enmeshed in the Iran-Contra affair, convicted on four misdemeanor counts of lying to Congress about US arms sales to Iran. He was pardoned by President Bush. McFarlane was active in writing foreign policy platforms of Republican Presidential candidates from Reagan to McCain. He remains active in foreign policy institutes, and in his own global consulting firm, McFarlane Associates. In early 2013, the FBI raided McFarlane's home in search of evidence related to an investigation of alleged illegal dealings with the government of Sudan, considered by the US government a sponsor of terrorism. No charges were filed. Fine condition. - Please contact us if you have any questions or require additional information. HFSID 223592
