I downloaded this app to my firestick because I had a free 30 day trial of Peloton classes.

I have tried working out from home before (You Tube, Beach Body on Demand, Les Mills) so I'll do a brief comparison between the paid services.

Peloton - this app was made for the rich folk who are happy to pay £2000 for an exercise bike, then fork out £39 a month to connect it to the app. I'm not one of those people. Instead I just use this app for the exercise classes - and there is a huge choice. One thing I like is that the classes vary in length from between 10-45 mins, and it is easy to create a "stack" of classes to create your own exercise schedule. So you could have a 20 min cardio work out, a 15 min strength workout, a 10 min yoga or pilates workout, all neatly lined up. It's actually easier to do this on the website rather than the app, and your selection will seamlessly be transferred to the app for use on your TV.

There are also collections if you don't want to choose your own classes, and there are even treadmill workouts, bike workouts (which you can do with any spin bike), and even outdoor runs with audio workouts.

As well as on-demand workouts there are a variety of live streaming classes for you to join in. From what I understand these live streamed classes then move into the on demand section, so there is constant refreshing of classes available.

Music is original artists, which is much better than the generic music you get - it takes your mind off the hard work you're doing if you can sing along!

I am hugely impressed with this app and for £12.99 a month I think it's worth it - even without a spin bike (although at some time in the future I probably will invest in a non-Peloton spin bike!)

2. Beach Body on Demand - another popular app for exercising at home. Previously available as boxed sets, you have access to all the Beach Body workout series - P90, Insanity, PIYO and much more.

There are many programmes and collections available - from body building to dance and yoga - as well as videos on nutrition and mediation - and you can follow a programme or build your own - although you can't create a stack like you can with Peloton.

I liked most of the instructors, they're friendly and motivating. Every video ends with a short advert for Shakeology, the MLM part of Beach Body, but it's not intrusive. You also get a personal coach, who may or may not be helpful, it depends on who you get.

If you like their programmes, I think this a great service. Personally I prefer less structure, and didn't really want to to a 6 week programme, and then move onto another and another. But this structure might be what you want. Personal choice - but for me it's a 3.5 out of 5 rating.

3. Les Mills. The legendary Les Mills. I know the classes are well thought of, but the classes on the app are so, so irritating. You work out with a group of instructors on a stage, and you are behind all the people on the floor doing the workout. The problem is the the camera pans into the people on the floor, and the faces and muscles of the instructors far too often - you're trying to follow along and work out what movement you're supposed to be doing, and the camera will head into the smiley and sweat covered face of the instructors so you can't actually see what they're doing. It's annoying and doesn't make for a good workout experience, all the "look at how hard I'm working" shots make it into a grand show. I know it's popular but for me, Les Mills, at £10 a month, gets a 1/5 rating from me.

When I first looked at working out from home, I tried Beach Body on Demand and Les Mills at the same time - Beach Body was the one I stuck with for a while. I also tried You Tube videos, which is the free on demand fitness channel - but in a way was overwhelmed with the huge amount of videos, some better than others, and I used to end up starting one, finding it wasn't up to a high standard, so starting another, finding it wasn't what I wanted....i wasted so much workout time this way.

I never tried Peloton first time round because I didn't have the bike and didn't really think there would be enough other classes to make it worthwhile. I was wrong.
