This picture book is a companion volume to the author's earlier bio of Boris Karloff, More Than a Monster, and as with that book, he had the cooperation of kin and associates and has a brief into by Sara Jane Karloff.
Comparing it to other books such as the 1974 book The Films of Boris Karloff, it has more on silent era films, pages 40 to 78 cover both plays and silent era movies

Interestingly, he says that Karloff is not in the silent serials The Lightning Raider (1919) and The Masked Rider (1919), but both of these are in Scott Allen Nollen's 2021 book Karloff and the East, in the case of the latter he even IDs which part Karloff played.

Stephen Jacobs claims that he discovered 4 silent era movies that are exclusive to his book. Granted, Whom the Gods Would Destroy (1919), Man to Man (1922), and Untamed Youth (1924) are unique to his book, but both books have Under Fire (1926).

The pages that cover the silent era, plus select plays, have pics for movies as diverse as The Prince and Betty, The Courage of Marge O'Doone, The Last of the Mohicans, The Cave Girl, The Woman Conquers, The Gentleman from America, The Love Brand, The Hellion, Dynamite Dan, The Prairie Wife, Parisian Nights, Forbidden Cargo, The Greater Glroy, Without Mercy, Lady Robinhood, The Golden Web, The Bells, The Eagle of the Sea, The Nickel-Hopper, Flaming Fury, Valencia, Tarzan and the Golden Lion, Let it Rain, The Princess from Hoboken, The Meddlin' Stranger, The Phantom Buster, The Love Mart, Sharp Shooters, The Vanishing Rider, Burning the Wind, The Little Wild Girl, The Devil's Chaplain, Anne Against the World, Two Sisters and Phantom of the North. The entries for each have a little story info, in fact more plot details are in the review quotes, but no other book on Karloff has so many pics of these and some of his plays such as Kongo. By this late date, it is no longer a suprise to learn that a number of these are of the western genre, including those set in Canada.

Pages 80 to 96 cover the early sound movies in the same fasion.

Now, an entire chapter is on Frankenstein.

Pages 112 to 140 cover the other early 1930s flicks, keep in mind that The Mask of Fu Manchu and The Mummy get the most pages, this trend continues with The Bride of Frankenstein.

While it's fair to say that neither this nor Karloff and the East have "complete" filmographies, both books do have info on all titles that the authors are aware of.

As a picture book that is in chronological order it cover select plays, radio work, recorded work, and TV work, many with pics. While the book Karloff and the East also has appendixes for these, it does not have pics for many of them and any story info is in the main text and not the appendix, but it does have credits for all of the episodes of Karloff shows such as The Veil and Colonel March of Scotland Yard.

The rating is based upon how this is as a picture book as it has rare pics for plays, silent movies and even some TV work. It is not an analytical guide and it is not a critical filmography, there are other books that are along those lines. It also has pics of Karloff as a man outside of his roles, as in with his kin and friends and even pets.
