EDIT 28/2/14 What i say below still counts, but there is now an even BETTER reason to go ahead and subscribe to The Times if you are thinking about it. Right now (and Im not sure how long the offer is in effect) if you sign up to 'The Digital pack' (and I think one of the other Premium packs, you will have to check) which is what I am reviewing below, you get not only what I mention but an entire YEAR of Premium Subscription on Spotify! Existing subscribers get it too (as I did) but you have to call The Times Customer line and they will switch you to the new offer...so its £26 per month for all the usual PLUS Spotify (which is worth £9.99 a month I believe...oh and its only for people in the Uk too as far as I know).

Im so excited about this great deal, that Im currently spreading the word far and wide : D

I had to edit my review to mention this in case people are on the fence or didnt know about this (including existing subscribers) because its a phenomenal deal...I just hope they exend it beyond a year!
(anyway..on with my 'old' review : D)

I used this app for a couple of weeks before making my review.

Ive used it every day to read the paper (inc Sundays) and Ive been happy with it. Im not sure what you get if you are NOT a subscriber to the Times, but if you have the 'Digital Pack' (which is the plan Im on) or one of the other subs that includes the daily paper then you get what it says on the tin...a digital version of the daily and Sunday Times.

Its all very attractively put together in the famous fonts, crosswords and Sudoku work within the app (and I think Bridge too, but I dont play it) and I think the content regards photos etc had been greatly improved...with the addition of videos from sky news and sky sports which for me makes up for any missing images (not that people generally buy the times because they like a lot of pictures in their paper!)

There is also a 'Live News' service as well as email bulletins and the edition gets updated throughout the day, from the morning edition to the evening edition, you wont miss anything.

If you like The Times, then I highly recommend going digital if you have a nice tablet to read it on (cant say for phones), and even though I have missed wrestling with the mammoth Sunday Times in physical form, I have to say that, like reading 'real' books..I have been converted to using a tablet for all my reading.

Now I had better mention that its not just the paper you get if you subscribe (subscribing direct from Amazon is a slightly different deal to what i get subscribing direct from the Times site, so you will have to check if you get what Im about to mention...its 100% worth shopping for the deal that best suits you)...

If you take 'The Digital Pack' not only do you get the app and the paper each day, but you get membership to 'Times+' which is quite fun and Ive already used a few times, (not including entering all their competitions) but they have actually quite worthy deals that if you use will pay for your subscription more or less (im thinking the ongoing 2 for 1 cinema tickets and the cut price memberships to various cultural clubs and art establishments...a LOT of various money off deals and exclusive Times + talks and get togethers of many types...I think its a very good bonus)

But most importantly for me an anyone else interested in History, you get access to the incomparable 'Times Archive' site, which has the daily papers going back to the beginning of the paper... For me, this is worth the price of admission on its own (Digital pack is £26 a month, and I believe £1 for your first month to try it out at the moment))

Once again, I warn you all that all that stuff isnt necessarily included if you just subscribe through the App Store, so if you fancy trying out the Digital Times, go and check out their various packs, because we all want the deal with the best fit and price, right?

Anwyay, app is fine for my tastes, doesnt have that much function beyond adjusting the font size, but it has all been working for me, it all happens pretty much automatically, so technophobes have no fear, and you also keep the last few days editions if you want to refer back or dont manage to read it all one day....not much to say about the app itself, since it seems purely functional, but it does its job well, nice and smooth and I like the look, which is unmistakeably The Times.

I give 5 stars not just for the app, but for the access to all the other stuff that The Times offers these days, from Times + to the Archive, and of course the daily paper beamed to you every morning.
