EDIT: In the two years since I shared my initial thoughts on the app, I've had to lower my rating of this once-great service from five stars to two. I've now divided the review into a couple of main portions.

NEGATIVE POINTS:

In 2024, the service received a massive update. The old Replays section was better because all of a tournament's matches were gathered on one page and divided by rounds -- I have to guess what "Day" to open while looking for specific rounds now -- while the men's and women's contests were separated.

As of this writing, several matches from 2024 and past years have disappeared too. Notice would have been nice.

The fast-forward function is a bit too fast as well.

POSITIVE POINTS:

Let's cover the main issues and address some apparent confusion.

1. ACCESS:

You do NOT need a separate connection to Tennis Channel to watch live matches on this app (tested and verified).

2. PRICE:

This is a fantastic deal for fans of the sport. The annual subscription seems off-putting -- until you realize that you're getting one year of Tennis Channel action for the price of a cable bill.

Simply put, access to a full year of Tennis Channel on cable would generally cost over $1,000. Likewise, viewing one year of TC in a separate streaming package (a cable alternative) would cost at least $400.

This service gives you the matches for a fraction of those prices -- and it throws in much more than the regular Tennis Channel can offer.

3. FEATURES:

The most important feature of this app, hands down, is the option to watch whatever live match you'd prefer to see, as opposed to watching what the network is airing. I dreamed about that for years while viewing the sport on cable. And besides airing professional-singles tennis, this is a nice spotlight for the junior and doubles competitions.

Along with the live coverage, there are numerous matches to watch on-demand, ranging from older contests to current tournaments.

Some of the on-demand offerings even include special pre-match footage not normally seen (the 2021 Australian Open Men's Singles Final is a great example).

4. GRAND SLAM COVERAGE:

The app does, in fact, feature live coverage of the French Open, the Grand Slam that Tennis Channel has primary rights to. Grand Slam matches that TC can't air live are usually available shortly after tournaments conclude.
