Having spent a lifetime in Pentecostal/Charismatic spaces, I’ve grown increasingly disturbed by the harmful ideas which some Charismatics have fervently embraced, preached, invested in, and acted upon. I’m grateful for Matthew Taylor’s fair, well-researched history of relationships between leaders of intersecting movements within the independent Charismatic sector and how their teachings overlapped and gained traction over several decades. I devoured this book in two days and gained clarity on how certain theologies have derailed us. This book serves as a wakeup call to Charismatics who’ve been seduced by the siren call of promised political power. It’s time for us to remember our true mission as followers of Jesus and to preserve and practice the beautiful gift of prophecy and role of prophet within healthy Scriptural guidelines—not as a means to rule, but to love and serve others.
