1f:T61e,I have read many biographies of C.S. Lewis, my favourite author and was particularly interested in George Sayer's book on Lewis. "Lenten Lands" while not able to replace other biographies (It does not claim to be a biography of Lewis) sheds extra light on Lewis' life and character from a close eyewitness and I would highly recommend it to all those interested in Lewis and his works. I disagree with the reviewer who states that Douglas Gresham is not sufficiently famous to write an autobiography. It is not celebrity status that makes interesting reading but having something enlightening and informative to say. In "Lenten Lands" we read of Lewis, the Christian, the husband, brother and stepfather. We also gain insights into Joy's life and beliefs. Douglas' honesty shines through. He is straightforward about his mistakes and regrets and also about the mistakes and weaknesses of others, an incident related on Jack and Joy's holiday in Greece being an obvious example of this. Here is an example of Jack's living faith in his Saviour that has produced a sensitivity to sin and weakness. I agree with the other reviewers that the sparse references to David are strange but assume he did not want to be included. Perhaps Douglas could address this in a forwar
