This book is great for a parent to read. The whirl of emotions displayed by this young author are so similar to the emotions I know my teenager has felt but has never been able to put into words the thousand different things she is feeling. As a mother I want this author to know (It is ok to be angry, but it is also ok to let it go. You spoke of being free when your were in the hospital after that nurse and her brother helped you, you spoke about how you hope this book might help someone else which shows a glimpse of hope. You seem to know a lot about pain and you are gifted with your words; it is remarkable people like you that make a true difference. I encourage you to look into the possibility of becoming a therapist once you find your own route to being healthy with the right mix of anger, sadnesses, hopefulness and HAPPINESS. Hang on to the glimpses of feeling you have felt, the freedom and the hope, fall into those sensations and let them help heal you. Based on your poem to your mother, it seems she is trying to keep you afloat, pushing you to see what she sees in you. It is so very hard for a parent to watch their child struggle and to be completely helpless, to want to shout out how truly remarkable they know you to be and want you to see it for yourself but you can't. It's an agonizing process to sit on the sidelines and watch their babies navigate their own life, there is no fast forward button to show them that life does get better, things do become more clear and you will see then just where your mom was the entire time, she was your raft carrying you across the harsh sea hoping with all her might your tidal waves become a gentle stream.) As a parent we have to remember our young children cannot possibly understand what we do now just as we never understood it at their age. Their journey whatever it may be is THEIR journey, it is THEIR story, we are merely there to help encourage and to teach while they become who they are meant to be. Have patience with your babies, talk to them about their feelings, line up psychologists, therapists, counselors and group activities with like minded people for your child. Put the tools in their belt, then it is up to them to put those tools to use. That is the best we can do.

Read this book, understand the pain from a younger set of eyes, let it help guide your child with grace and do your very best to put yourself in their shoes and what it felt like to be their age. Give advice you wish you were given at that age and gently place a tool in their belt for later use. One day the tool belt you have provided will be precisely what is used to becoming a functional well-rounded human being.
