UPDATE : Perhaps I was initially a bit too harsh in my criticism, I did manage to adjust the knobs on my stereo so that the chanting choir of "So Be It" is more in the background, and with that done, it actually is quite a beautiful musical arrangement that does serve to send me off to dreamland...Mission accomplished !. The album could be longer tho', it's on the shorter side and that's a drawback, but it is quite soothing, and for that I am grateful :-) Now what follows is my original review :
I have trouble falling asleep and staying asleep (that's why I'm up at 4 a.m. writing this review !) and calming music that would help me drift off was what I was hoping for in this CD, ...alas, that was not to be. To be fair, the music is great, but the monotonous chant of "So Be It" ruined that for me. Three or four, maybe even seven repetitions of "So be it" would really really have sufficed, but instead, the drone of "So be it" went on for *minutes*, making it seem more like the theme of an approaching army of zombies than a spiritual chant.
"So Be It" is supposed to be a declaration meaning IT IS DONE, your desire is manifest, you have decreed it. To repeat it over and over and over and over is like saying you don't truly have confidence it is so . Also, the volume of the chant was not faint and in the background, maybe if it was it wouldn't have been so bad , instead, it competed with the instruments and diminished my listening experience because I was really enjoying the layers of the beautiful music until the intrusive chant.
The other thing that was annoying was the tones that periodically went off in the middle of the song,
why ? It reminded me of the noise an elevator makes before the doors open, or a school bell signaling class is over, MAJORLY distracting and needlessly broke up the flow. Another review mentioned this was supposed to signify the progression of the chakras...well that's kind of dumb. As kundalini rises, the chakras are in a harmonious union, there's no , ta-da, we're at the next chakra now, ding ding ding, at least there shouldn't be. It felt like a FENCE was being put up where there should have been a River.
Anyhow, I was hoping for a better send-off into dream land, but the above mentioned noisey parts kept me stuck in wakefulness. This could work for a meditation where you don't want to get too deep, obviously reading some of the other reviews, they loved it, so what can I say, Beauty is in the ear of the beholder , but honestly this just wasn't my cup of tea .
