This album stirs something deep inside of me every time I put it on. There's just something so beautifully real about the playing on here, "touching" is the word that comes to mind. I want to listen this album so often, that sometimes I have restrain myself from playing it multiple days in a row. Highly recommended!
The musicians featured are street musicians from Cusco, an ancient city that was just as important a cultural center for the imperial Incas as it is for their Quechua speaking descendants today. As the title suggests, most of the tracks feature the Peruvian versions of the harp and mandolin (not to be confused with the charango, a similar instrument), played together on most selections, and solo on a few. The only other instruments are vocals on a couple of songs, and the quena-and end-blown flute on one song.
