TOTO is known for its quality toilets, and I'm an avid fan; I would have no other toilet in our home. Our TOTO space saving toilet is installed in a small bathroom and has worked excellently for the last nine years or so. Recently, the soft close seat broke--the plastic mount on one side snapped. So I found this replacement seat on Amazon.

I received the new seat to find the plastic mounting lip cracked. Amazon has excellent customer support and replaced it, postage paid. The new seat arrived in two days. Five stars to Amazon on customer support!

The new toilet seat was easy to install. Like the old one, you insert two nylon screws through the top of the back mounting plate, and then below the toilet you screw on two nylon nuts. Simple, fast, effective, it's a quick install. The performance of the seat is excellent. It's a bit stiff raising the seat--there's quite a bit of resistance--but this may loosen with use over time. Dropping the seat results in an immediate slowdown. The seat gracefully and gradually drops down to a soft landing.

What you don't see in the picture is the underside of the lid and seat ring. Our old TOTO soft close seat was pretty flat on the underside of the seat with only two plastic pads where the seat ring touches the toilet lip. This seat has four pronounced pads compared the two on our old seat. When cleaning, it takes more work and attention to get around all these plastic contours compared to the old seat. Also, when the lid is raised but the seat ring is down, there are crevices on the back portion of the seat, where the lid and seat attach. It's hard to describe clearly, but these crevices result in liquids leaching in. There's no way to clean between these cracks. I can see a screw on one side by these crevices. I hope it doesn't rust due to water and whatnot collecting and drying on it over the years.

The back mounting lip is contoured to arch around the TOTO logo on a TOTO toilet, which is a nice touch.

Overall, I'm okay with this toilet seat, considering what we paid for it. But I did find it somewhat fragile, so be very careful how much force you apply to any plastic pieces when you install it. Also, the design isn't as nice as the stock seat we received with the toilet. Expect to spend a little more time cleaning, if you had a seat like we had.

But it works, it's cheap, and it's made by TOTO, so I'm okay with it.
