Particles between 1 micron (μm) and 5 mm in size are quantified, and polymer types are identified for particles >10 μm. Methods for microplastics analysis are still developing and currently have many limitations. This test combines optical microscopy with polarized light microscopy to get a higher accuracy count of microplastics at small particle sizes (1-10μm), as well as Raman spectroscopy which is accurate at identifying polymer types down to 10μm.
